Torsten Wendt studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. Since he had previously completed his training as a savings bank clerk at the Kreissparkasse in Alfeld (Leine), the focus of his studies was consequently on commercial and corporate law.

After his first State examination, he completed his legal traineeship in Lower Saxony, which he completed with the second State examination.

He then worked for a short time as a lawyer in Ebstorf (Uelzen district) before he was elected mayor there.
He headed the combined community administration of the combined community Altes Amt Ebstorf for eight years and three months.
In addition to building law, he not only accompanied public law there, but also civil law issues of the municipality.

After further positions in the municipality of Halstenbek (district of Pinneberg) and the city of Einbeck (district of Northeim) in a managerial position, he was finally elected district administrator for the district of Steinburg and held this position for eight years. Among other things, he was responsible for the numerous public and private law investments of the district.

In his free time, Torsten Wendt trains people in first aid at the German Red Cross or he can occasionally be heard as a church musician in various churches.
